Espoo Hospital Two-Stage Open Architectural Competition

The City of Espoo is organising an open international architectural competition for the design of Espoo Hospital and the conversion of the existing Puolarmetsä Hospital into high-quality accommodation for old people, a “Life and Living” Senior Citizens’ Centre. The hospital, the senior citizens’ centre, residential and other functions and a children’s day-care centre will all form a campus which has the principle purpose of promoting good health.


The first stage is an ideas competition, the purpose of which is to find a general plan for the campus area.
 
The entries selected for the second stage will be given instructions for further development based on the evaluation of the first stage.
 
According to the competition programme, construction is estimated to be complete by 2014.

 
The competition is open to citizens of all countries. At least one of the team members must have the right to work as an architect in his/her own country.

An open seminar in English concerning the competition will be arranged on Friday, 15 February 2008 at 1 pm at Puolarmetsä Hospital, Puolarinportti 1, Espoo. A memorandum of the seminar will be posted on the competition website on Wednesday, 27 February 2008.
