HOLCIM AWARDS FOR SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION
The Holcim Awards are divided into five geographic regions: Africa and Middle East, Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America. The entries will be assessed by regional juries headed by five of the world’s most renowned technical universities: the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa; Tongji University in Shanghai, China; the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, Switzerland; the University of São Paulo, Brazil and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston, USA. The winners of the five Regional Awards will afterwards participate in the global competition to be carried out in 2006.
Awards entries will be evaluated against five “target issues” of sustainable construction. The “target issues” of quantum change and transferability; ethical standards and social equity; ecological quality and energy saving; economic performance and compatibility; and contextual response and aesthetic impact are explained in more detail on the Holcim Foundation website (www.holcimfoundation.org).
