International competition: Design of place Lalla Yeddouna in Fez
This competition is part of a programme for the economic and social development of this sector through the development of its cultural, artisan and tourist potential. Place Lalla Yeddouna will serve in the future as a vibrant mixed-use hub for the community as well as for visitors to the medina. The preservation of the architectural and cultural heritage of the site, registered on the UNESCO world heritage list, is a fundamental aspect of the competition programme.
Prizes
At the end of the first stage, the jury will select about eight projects the authors of which will be invited to participate in the second stage for which they will each receive a fee of 40 000 US$.
At the end of the second stage, the jury will award 3 prizes of the following amounts:
55 000 US$; 40 000 US$; 25 000 US$.
Main dates
- Registration for Phase 1: October 15, 2010
- Submission of entries for the first stage: 8 November 2010
- Jury meeting: 14 December 2010
- Submission of second stage entries: February 2011
- Final jury meeting: March 2011
Jury
The jury will be composed of officials representing the Moroccan autorities and as well as of representatives of the United States of America and of the following architects: David Chipperfield, United Kingdom; Matthias Sauerbruch, Germany; Marc Angélil, Switzerland-USA; Meisa Batayneh Maani, Jordan; Stefano Bianca, Switzerland; Omar Farkhani, Morocco; Rodolfo Machado, USA-Argentina.
Participation
Registration for the competition will take place on the competition web site. The competition language is English. There is no registration fee.
